Sand Hill Energy Center
Sand Hill Energy Center is Austin’s most efficient, natural gas-fired power plant. In 2010, Encotech was retained to provide Structural Engineering and construction administrative services in support of the plants 100 megawatt (MW) expansion, which included the addition of two gas turbines to boost the power generation capacity.
Encotech provided structural engineering support for equipment foundations, elevated structural steel platforms, and miscellaneous pipe supports.
As construction administrator, the firm coordinated with mechanical, electrical and civil consultants and equipment manufacturers. This included observing and inspecting civil and piping work for compliance with contract documents; processing contractor shop drawings and submittal data; evaluating contractor requests for payment; reviewing construction schedules and proposed implementation ideas to reduce construction time, and issuing supplemental instructions to the contractor.
