Del Valle/Moore’s Crossing Fire & EMS Station: Serving Southeast Austin’s Community

The Del Valle/Moore’s Crossing Station is the first of five new high-priority fire/EMS stations of the City of Austin’s plan to increase emergency response time in the areas with the greatest need. The join-use facility includes offices, a full kitchen and dining area, sleeping quarters, and a fitness center to accommodate 16 firefighters.

The City of Austin developed the Central Library along West Cesar Chavez Street, at the Seaholm District. SInce opening in 2017 this new iconic building has become the centerpiece of Austin’s cultural landscape. The award-winning lakefront structure hosts open library spaces, an on-site restaurant, staff support areas, and unfinished space for future expansion.

Encotech spearheaded the design for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing design for a new, state-of-the-art station shared by the Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County EMS. The site consisted of two new structures: a one-story 12,500 SF main building for bedrooms and living spaces and a 6,000 SF Vehicle Storage Building.

The project required thoughtful collaboration with the Architect, Civil Engineer, and Sustainability Consultant regarding the placement of the new generator, grease interceptor, electrical meter banks, secondary power risers, retaining ponds, and underground plumbing services. When establishing photometric calculations for exterior lighting and generator placement concerning noise transmission, proximity to residential neighborhoods was carefully reviewed.

The facility achieved Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) certification.

Encotech was contracted to design the plumbing systems for the entire building and provide construction phase services to install all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The plumbing design featured a rainwater collection and distribution system and energy-efficient plumbing for high-rise buildings. This project required coordination of site utilities on a zero-lot-line.

The electrical service to the site was upgraded to power the new buildings with limited impact to the existing buildings. Site lighting was added to the parking lot near the new offices. Diffusers located in the current main reception area were rebalanced to provide proper air distribution. The New Central Library is being designed to achieve LEED® Gold Certification.
