AISD T.A. Brown Elementary School: A Community-Based Facility that Encourages New Ways of Learning.

In November 2017, Austin voters overwhelmingly passed a $1 Billion bond designed to replace, modernize, improve, renovate and equip a significant portion of the Austin Independent School District’s (AISD) facilities. T.A. Brown was one of the 17 campuses to begin construction, and it is one of AISD’s first design-build developments for the 2017 Bond program.

In November 2017, Austin voters overwhelmingly passed a $1 Billion bond designed to replace, modernize, improve, renovate and equip a significant portion of the Austin Independent School District’s (AISD) facilities. TA Brown was one of the 17 campuses to begin construction, and it is one of AISD’s first design-build developments for the 2017 Bond program.

The new AISD T.A. Brown is a STEAM learning facility. The new campus consists of a new 75,000 square foot facility and ancillary structures accommodating 522 students.

Encotech provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services for the new facility. The plumbing team designed a gas boiler for a mechanical system and load analysis, sizing, layout, riser diagrams, and a hot water circulation loop design for water and wastewater and natural gas piping. The mechanical team designed a 4-pipe air-cooled chiller and the building automation controls. Encotech also provided ductwork design, zonal load analysis, sizing, and scheduling of HVAC equipment based on zoning. The outside air systems were designed to use energy recovery. Lastly, the team created air registers, grills and temperature sensors, and condensate piping. The new school was the first to receive LEED Gold certification.
