City of Austin Davis Water Treatment Plant: Reliable Drinking Water
The Davis Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is one of two major plants in the Austin Water Utility system that draws water from the Colorado River and treats it to drinking quality. As a part of the Davis WTP Sludge Disposal Program, the City of Austin issued the Davis Water Treatment Plant Davis Sludge Processing Improvements project.

Encotech provided Structural Engineering services to design a foundation for new sludge treatment and recovery module. The removal of the original tank years before impeded the existing foundation to accommodate the new larger tank. Encotech executed site measurements and inventory to find the existing foundation’s specifications and modify them to resist a heavier, taller tank’s additional lateral and vertical forces.
Installation of the design presented a challenge because the site was on the side of a hill and almost adjacent to a 9-ft retaining wall. Encotech coordinated with the Davis staff, consultants, and contractors to safely specify the installation to miss the various piping and pump connections surrounding the worksite.
