Phil Hardberger Urban Ecology Center: Urban Nature at its Best
The Urban Ecology Center in San Antonio, named after the former San Antonio Mayor, Phil Hardberger, comprises four buildings and an artful, photo-voltaic canopy-covered arcade that connects the buildings. The facilities include a gathering hall, classroom, office and reception area, and a kitchen and storage building.

The Phil Hardberger Park is situated at the historic Voelcker Homestead. The restoration of the native oak savanna has made the urban park a beloved destination for nature lovers. The addition of 200 acres more than doubled the park’s size, bringing the total area to 311 acres.
Encotech provided MEP engineering and Sustainability design services for Phase III of the park. The MEP scope included a rainwater collection system to promote sustainable water management practices. The electrical utility services had not previously been established at the site; therefore, Encotech coordinated with the local utility provider for access.
