JOB OVERVIEW
Encotech is hiring a Commissioning Agent to support and execute the work of our growing Commissioning Department. This role involves providing commissioning (Cx) services for Mechanical (HVAC), Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems across a wide range of facility types, including commercial, industrial, governmental, institutional, infrastructure, healthcare, multifamily, educational, and recreational buildings.

The Commissioning Agent will lead and support efforts aligned with ASHRAE Guideline 0 and Guideline 1 commissioning processes. Responsibilities include commissioning for both new construction and renovation projects, retro-commissioning of existing systems, and conducting energy studies and modeling. Additional tasks may include measurement and verification and ongoing commissioning support as required. Many projects also include sustainability and compliance components, such as LEED Commissioning, Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) requirements, and IECC minimum commissioning standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and functions may include the following.  Other related duties may be assigned.
  • Work with Engineering Project Managers, the owner, the design team, and construction/installation partners to review projects in the commissioning phase and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Leverage your expertise to troubleshoot maintenance and system issues.
  • Assist in the process of updating and refining the commissioning process based on new technology.
  • Assist owners and/or clients in developing owner project requirements.
  • Develop and perform pre-functional checklists for MEP systems according to project scope.
  • Create and perform final performance tests with applicable contractors according to the project scope.
  • Develop and maintain a Master Deficiency Log for each commissioning project. Coordinate with the contractor, owner, architect, engineer, and construction manager(s) on steps to resolve deficiencies.
  • Coordinate with project team members, internal and external, to facilitate a successful commissioning process on each project.
  • Develop a commissioning plan per project. Maintain, update, and distribute plans as required to facilitate a successful commissioning project.
  • Issue project status updates to the Client at defined regular intervals during the commissioning process.
  • Schedule and lead commissioning kick-off and subsequent commissioning meetings for each commissioning project.
  • Prepare project-specific commissioning specifications and deliver them to the project engineer for review and inclusion.
  • Perform step-by-step review and verification of all project commissioning procedures.
  • Assist with training and growing the commissioning department.
  • Assist in Request for Qualification project write-ups and participate in project interviews when required.
  • Assist in developing tools and templates for the Commissioning Department.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute MEP job observation site visits.
  • Write and issue job observation site visit reports.
  • Candidate may currently demonstrate the ability to provide guidance and QAQC services on MEP related projects an as-needed basis, although this is not a requirement.
  • Candidate may currently demonstrate the ability to be a subject matter expert in the commissioning process, to support ongoing improvements to processes and systems, and to train others, although this is not a requirement.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor or advanced degree in engineering, related field, or related industry experience.
  • PE license, Commissioning Certification, Energy Management, or TAB certifications desired. Commissioning certifications may include QCxP, CxA, or similar.
  • 10-20+ years of related industry experience desired, including a minimum of 10+ years commissioning experience.
  • Project management expertise, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning.
  • Business development experience is a plus.
  • Experience developing proposals is a plus.
  • Proficiency in client-facing/client relationship/client management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and general computer use.
  • Proficiency with construction management software such as Pro-core, PlanGrid, etc.
  • Experience with commissioning software or ongoing commissioning tools.
  • Experience using CxAlloy is a plus.
  • Experience using Revu Bluebeam is a plus.
  • Technical knowledge of MEP system design and operation experience with controls and instrumentation (design or implementation).
  • Electrical Experience is a plus.
  • Ability to climb ladders/stairs and lift and carry loads over 20 lbs. Able to be on a job site for extended periods (8-10 hours).
  • Familiar with the engineering submittal review and RFI processes.
  • Familiar with MEP construction standards and guidelines.
  • Ability to view drawings in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • MEP Design experience.
